Presidency meeting in Istanbul welcomed by OMO, the UEF Turkish member

The last UEF Presidency meeting was welcomed in Istanbul, Turkey from 9 to 11 March 2017.
During the first day, 9¨March, an official meeting was organized in the office of the regional directorate of Orman Genel Müdürlügü in Istanbul
The OMO (Orman Mühendisleri Odasi), the Turkish Chamber of Forest Engineers, could warmly welcome the UEF Presidency and presented an interesting overview about OMO and forestry in Turkey.
Mr Ali Küçükaydin, the OMO President, could introduced an official and fruitful meeting in Istanbul, between the board of OMO and representatives of the Turkish National Forest Service and the Istanbul forest University, founded in 1857.
Mr Michael Diemer, UEF President, presented the Union of European Foresters to our new Turkish member.
Mr Recep Ates, Regional manager of OGM (Orman Genel Müdürlügü) founded in 1839, presented the forestry in the Istanbul region.
Professor Yusuf Günes, vice dean of the faculty of Forestry in Bahçeköy, Istanbul, gave an overview about the activity of this faculty of forestry, the oldest one in Turkey.
Mr Mevlut Düzgün, OMO officer, presented the Orman Mühendisleri Odasi, founded in 1954 and its numerous activities to promote forest and foresters in Turkey.
In the afternoon, the UEF Presidency held their meeting, in order to prepare the next activities of UEF, actions and meetings, and especially the next XIX Congress in Mainz, Germany, 27 September to 1 October 2017.
An official dinner, hosted by OMO, allowed amazing views on the Bosphorus.
During the second day, 10 March, a field tour was organized to the beautiful Atatürk arboretum, in the experimental Belgrad forest in Bahçeköy, 20 km from the Taksim square in Istanbul.
Then, a visit of the faculty of forestry, was organized. Mr Ahmet Yesil, dean of the faculty, warmly welcomed the UEF Presidency.
The UEF Presidency thanks all their guests in Istanbul, after a nice meeting allowing a long and fruitful cooperation with OMO and the Turkish foresters.
